2007 Super Saturday

The Grant 5th and 6th grade teams performed excellent Saturday in Hesperia.  Coach Faber's team was down 14-6 at half time however the team was playing well.  The Bengals scored right before half time with a scoring touchdown run by Bronson Leutzinger, his first of the year.  The team came out after half time and got into the endzone with Riley Foster and then continued to ride the back of Riley.  Riley put the ball in the end zone for three more touchdowns.  What a way to end the 2007 season Bengals winning 36-14!  The next game was Coach Bomay's Siberian's against Newaygo A.  Newaygo A beat the Siberians early in the season.  However this game went to our Siberians.  The team came out with some devastating defense and scoring on the first two possessions of the game.  Cord Sutter went 15 yards for his first touch down and that is all the Siberians would need.  However Garrett Bomay punched it on the next series for insurance points.  The Siberians topped Newaygo A 16-0.

Both Newaygo and Grant can be proud of the way their boys played.  Not because of any score but the sportsmanship on the field.  Boys from opposing teams were helping each other up and patting them on the helmet when they made a good play.  Good job boys.

The championship game pitted Hesperia 5-1 against Holton 6-0.  The game was a tight fought match with teams exchanging touchdowns making the score 14-14 with 30 seconds to go in the game when a speedster from Hesperia stuck it into the end zone making the score 20-14.  Holton still had one last chance and move the ball down to about the Hesperia 40 yard line but just ran out of time.  Congratulations to both teams for their excellent seasons!
